CAREER ADVANTAGE
Your
Employability Skills Certificate Program (Y.E.S.™)
In
collaboration with local school districts, employers and business
organizations, the Y.E.S.™ program is now
available in northeastern Pennsylvania. The program is designed to
help youth acquire the fundamental skills that employers regard as
important to a well-trained work force. It addresses key concerns of
the employers, while preparing applicants for quality employment
opportunities and a pathway to a secure future.
Y.E.S.™ was developed in York,
Pennsylvania, by the York Operating Partnership and has a proven
record of success at the high school level and in adult continuing
education programs.
The
Y.E.S.™ program is a 120-hour course with
rigorous certification requirements, which are taught in the senior
year of high school.

communications, teamwork, health and safety, personal
development, technology, quality as well as plant/business
tours.

attendance of 95 percent or better

EMPLOYER SUPPORT FORM
Y.E.S. Assessments
The Council works with
local companies to develop and implement hands-on assessment tools
for the Technology and Quality disciplines in the Y.E.S. curriculum.
In order to receive the
program certificate at the end of the year, students must meet the
following criteria:

Reading and math
scores are at a 9th grade level, which is determined by the Test
of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

Score of 21 out of
50 on the Wonderlic Personnel Test
-
Successfully pass a
6-panel drug screening
-
Demonstrate 95% or
better attendance rate
Networking Opportunities
Students are able to
join the Y.E.S. Alumni social networking community and receive an
electronic newsletter that contains job orders, information about
Y.E.S. and the community, and view other alumni profiles.

Career Integration (i.e. Career
Speakers, Career Fairs)
Business professionals
speak to high school students about career opportunities in the
area, as well as the duties and responsibilities of many positions
within their organization. The Schuylkill County Career Fair
is held annually and allows K-12 students
to learn about careers in Northeast PA.
Internship Placements
The Northeast PA
Manufacturers and Employers Council is working in conjunction with
local high schools, colleges, and businesses to provide internship
opportunities.
Youth Employment Register
Students who have any
type of certification can include their resume in the Northeast
Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Association's resume
register. Member companies with job openings are able to
contact the student directly to arrange an interview.
